Behind the Scene - Life as a Makeup Artist

Hello Readers!

It’s been 3 years that I started to blog about my passion for makeup. Some of you may be curious about my job scope, how do I get in here and my working experience in makeup industry. Well I could say, it does take great effort to at this stage, having my own company established, own a personalized website, good clientele, affiliates and referrals. But it is worth it.

Passion for Makeup
My first makeup encounter was at aged 7, putting on red crayon on my lips! Thank God, I did not suffer from poisoned. I am always amazed how a woman could look so refreshing and gorgeous after a makeover. Even at teen years, I started to apply some light makeup and purchasing some cosmetics. Of course, the schools prohibited us from applying makeup. So I saved that for hangout, parties and special occasions.

My First Makeup Kit
As I grew older and having more freedom during college and work, I started wearing simple makeup and collecting cosmetics whenever I have extra pocket money. Yes, you may say it is waste of money but I believe everyone has their own fetish about certain stuff. So mine was makeup! I read lots of beauty magazine and learn via experimenting and self taught.

Then, I decided to enroll a professional makeup artist course in local town. Everything is new to me and I found it exciting! Finally I got my first makeup kit which cost me a bomb. Throughout the course, I learned from my mentor, Kenz Ooi. He taught and trained me in many ways which I would never learn from the Internet or books.

At the same time, I have started to do my freelance work as a makeup artist. The first step that most students will never take before graduating. Well, I would say that I am determined to excel.

My Job as Makeup Artist Trainer
With Amber Chia
Well, after graduated from the makeup academy, I was trained by mentor during my internship. This is my turning point of my life. Basically I learned everything from reception, sales, marketing, photography and management apart from training students. There will be few beauty pageants, fashion shows and photo shoot session that we attended together. Though hectic and exhausted, but I never regret to gain such exposure be it entertainment or makeup industry. I am glad to be part of his team.

On my own Feet
Makeup Studio
Times goes by, and I decided to step out and be at my own feet. I was introduced by my friend to join their wedding centre. From there, I started building up more wedding portfolios and conducting personal makeup course at the same time. Participated in wedding fairs, giving sponsorship to affiliates, attended beauty trade and seminars. Invested on company branding, set up a personalized website, brochures, office fixtures and fittings and of course, upgrading my cosmetics brands. All these had taken my time and savings to start up my own company.

Well, even though it is still a long way to go, but I still love my job!  Yes, we may face challenges along the way but it is also long term learning. Staying POSITIVE AND PASSION is the key to success.

I love brides getting a makeover for their wedding day! You will want to be at their best MUA of the day. It is the PASSION. I believe passion brings us to deliver our work with value and building long term relationship with clients.
