Thank You Sifu!
Since it is Teacher’s Day, I would like give a
token of appreciation note to my mentor, Kenz Ooi. Without him, I would not be a makeup artist
on my own today. The day I still remembered when I first started attending his
class. And I was amazed by his delicate makeup skills. I said this to myself “I
want to be like him”. Of course I started from zero knowledge but with fiery
passion to learn. He encouraged me that everything is possible if I am humble
and willing to learn from an empty cup.
My mentor |
Well, it was not easy to grasp his skill during class.
There are times where he evaluates my model’s makeover face with his poker face
or with a sigh. He will then comment on certain techniques that can be
improved. That is when my cold sweat and butterflies stomach comes together.
His perfectionist level makes me want to strive harder. I was fast track person
and makeup takes lots of my patience and time, which I struggled. It is all
about consistency and passion that leads to creativity. It is difficult to get
him to say “Excellent” which I only heard him saying once that made my day.
Me and my colleague |
I was trained by Sifu during my internship.
Basically I learnt everything from reception, sales, marketing, photography and
management apart from training students. There will be few beauty pageants,
fashion shows and photo shoot session that we attended together. Though hectic
and exhausted, but I never regret to gain such exposure be it entertainment or
makeup industry. I am glad to be part of his team.
Sifu, you pushed me beyond my own comfort zone and
taught me how to be creative. Thank you for inspiring me and so many of
the many students who's life have never been the same since they met you. You
are undoubtedly the best “Sifu” I have ever met.
You give us courage to
chase our dreams.
