Good day CL Makeup Artistry blogger,
My name is Jesly from www.littlesweetoccasions.com Little Sweet Occasion and I am so
excited to be invited by Cherlyn to be occasionally guest blogger posting on CL
Makeup Artistry – Enhancing Your God Given Beauty. Well, today I am going to share with you a
topic on “You get what you pay for”
There is one thing in our life that you and I, both agree on,
and that is you can always buy something cheaper, flight, car, laptop, wedding
flowers, catering and you name it, I know someone out there can give them to
you. However, what you are getting actually, will it be what you want?
So, let me share with you a scenario that we encountered, we
sent out floral & décor proposal for our client. Prior to sending it out, I
had gone through the details and even made few things optional for the client,
which we thought it would be “nice to have”, exactly like what I told them over
the phone.
When we finally meet up and after going through the proposal,
the mother of the bride (Name has been
changed- Ruby). Ruby’s daughter in law – Kelly (Name has been changed) is based
in oversea so I only spoke to Kelly via the phone and emails and only meet up
with her when she’s home.
Ruby: said: “Jesly… This floral proposal is way too high...
Me: Aunty Ruby, I showed you the proposal because
I believe it fits the desire of Kelly and I did reduce a lot to try to meet
your budget.”
Ruby: How would you
expect us to pay when we have decided not to spend more than X amount (This
would have nice to know at the beginning, by the way)
Me: Please let me know
what you would like to cut down and we will be happy to make the changes for
you. How about changing the long table to round table, change the design of the
flowers… (Basically I suggested her 12 options to make changes)
Ruby: Jesly… Kelly wants all that and we expect that all
the people in the business are hungry for profit and would be willing to make a
little less profit for the job.
Me: Let’s just say
that “you can always find
something cheaper, but it will not be the wedding your daughter wants, it will
be the price that you like”
.
Why do I have to let you know the above story? Because it is
the norm in the society to have that wrong perception. It is important to educate
the couples and ourselves in the wedding industry. It is easy to say that you
want a “simple” centerpiece, “ looks
nice”, ‘smaller” etc. We have worked in many occasions with flowers; grand
centerpiece comes with abundant of flowers in it. Let me show you some sample of the visual;
Can every bride afford it? No but those that value it, will
seek floral designer to design one for them. During the consultation, we would
use this as an inspiration for the bride who loved the look but couldn’t pay
for it.
|
Could the bride opt for something cheaper? Absolutely yes!
However, the structure of the centerpiece will be vastly different in terms of
height, size, amount of flower, type of flower and the design. Surely, the feeling is not the same but it is
definitely cheaper.
|
Is the pink peony cheaper because is more economical?
No. So, we will usually offer our client
an alternative like pink eustoma. Is the feeling the same? No, but is the price
cheaper? Yes. Some brides are okay with
that, however some would not compromise for anything less than that. The
decision is at your hand. Bear in mind,
if you are visiting any flower vendor, and if you ever ask them to reduce their
price. Be sure that you are getting the exact thing. If a vendor tells you that
you can get something a few hundred
lesser than the other, the chances are, and you will probably end up getting 4
inches centerpiece on 72 inches round table seating of 12.
That’s it for today! I look forward to writing on Cherlyn’s
blog and hope to inspire you with some lovely floral design advise, trends and
finds. I wish you have a beautiful day and look forward to meeting you back
here soon!
